POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Scientist -- Statistics will apply various statistical techniques to create actionable insights from a broad range of data, some of it on a large scale: behavior (click-stream, call center), transactions (sales), perceptions (surveys, usability), market research (including industry and competitive analysis), demographic (including financial and medical), SaaS product usage, customer support interactions, etc. The data may be quantitative or qualitative as well as either structured or unstructured. Real-time personalization will be one of the key applications. The recommended business actions should lead to measurable improvement in business outcomes including end-to-end customer experience as well as financial metrics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with a world-class inter-disciplinary team consisting of analytics scientists, engineers, and business leaders to create and execute the overall data-driven strategy for a portfolio of products and services related to Intuitute businesses. This strategy will enable us to accelerate revenue growth over the next several years. This will require solving some fundamental and highly challenging issues in terms of where and how we use statistics; what tools and technologies we should deploy; and much more.
Conduct world-class applied statistics research to deliver on the strategy. This will include building out all of critical tools, processes, technologies, training, etc. that will be needed to ensure that the entire company is moving aggressively forward. A key challenge will be to build capabilities that can grow and expand to encompass not only traditional marketing and commerce web-sites but also future Software as a Service product offerings and an increasing portfolio of support, service, and community web-sites.
Design, develop, test, and validate analytical models that solve high-impact business problems.
Act as an industry thought leader to continue to build up awareness of Intuit as a front-runner web company across the broader web business community. This will involve speaking at industry events, sharing best-practices with other companies, building working relationships with key analytic experts, firms, and consultants, and more.
Act as a core member of the Business Intelligence and Optimization group and help drive and resolve broader team and business issues around our general state of web analytics excellence.
Qualifications
IDEAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Below are some of the key experiences or qualifications that we would ideally like to see in the candidate. Of course, candidates with just a subset of these experiences/qualifications would be actively considered.
Deep mastery of statistics Candidate must have a good working knowledge of various statistical methods in the area of applied econometric modeling. Knowledge of one or more of the following is critical: dynamic models, Bayesian econometrics, Markov Chain Monte-Carlo techniques, panel data methods, discrete choice methods, regime-change models, advanced classification and clustering algorithms.
Demonstrated capability to apply this to a broad range of customer-generated data (click-stream, transactions, perceptions, market data, in-product, etc.) including both structured and unstructured data.
Outstanding analytic skills This individual will need to demonstrate the highest level of analytic capability. And most importantly, the candidate must have a proven track record in making analysis actionable to improve business outcomes.
Strong algorithmic and programming skills Ability to create and program new statistical algorithms as necessary to supplement external tools. Good working knowledge of one or more statistical packages such as SAS, EViews, Matlab, S-PLUS, or R. Competency in coding in SQL, Linux, Java.
Ph.D. in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Machine Learning or closely related quantitative field.
Candidate should have 7+ years of experience primarily in Statistics.
